How to Know If You Have Mice
Mice leave obvious clues when they've moved into your home. Catching these signs early makes treatment faster and less expensive.
Droppings: Mouse droppings are the clearest sign of an infestation. They look like small, dark grains of rice with pointed ends. You'll find them in cabinets, under sinks, along baseboards, and in pantries. Fresh droppings are dark and moist. A single mouse produces 50 to 75 droppings per day, so even a small infestation creates plenty of evidence.
Nighttime Noises: Mice are nocturnal. If you hear light, fast scratching or scurrying in your walls, ceiling, or attic after dark, you probably have mice. The sounds are lighter and quicker than rats or squirrels.
Gnaw Marks: Mice constantly chew to keep their teeth short. Look for small gnaw marks on food packaging, wood trim, electrical wires, and plastic containers. Chewed holes in walls or baseboards, usually about the size of a dime, show where mice are traveling.
Grease Marks: Mice follow the same paths repeatedly, leaving dark, greasy smudge marks along walls and baseboards where their fur brushes against surfaces.
Nests: Mice build nests from shredded paper, fabric, and insulation. Look for these behind appliances, in storage boxes, and in cluttered areas. Finding a nest means mice have established themselves in your home.

Common Rodents in WNC
House Mice: The most common rodent pest in our area. Small and brown or gray, they squeeze through openings as small as a dime and reproduce quickly.
Norway Rats: Large, heavy-bodied rats that burrow and nest in crawlspaces and basements. They enter through gaps around utility lines or damaged foundation vents.
Roof Rats: Excellent climbers that prefer attics and upper levels. Tree branches touching your roofline give them easy access.
Gray Squirrels: Common in yards but problematic in attics. They're active during the day and cause damage by chewing wood and electrical wiring.

Why Mice Invade Mountain Homes
Seeking Warmth: When temperatures drop in fall and winter, mice look for warm shelter. Your heated home and crawlspaces offer perfect protection from cold mountain nights.
Food Access: Homes provide everything mice need. Crumbs, unsealed pantry items, and pet food left out overnight attract mice. They need very little—just a few grams of food per day.
Proximity to Forests: Mountain homes near wooded areas face constant pressure from mice populations. As natural food sources decrease in winter, mice venture closer to homes.
Easy Entry Points: Mice only need an opening the size of a dime to squeeze into your home. Older mountain homes often have gaps around pipes, wires, vents, and foundations.

Our Mice Pest Control Process
Thorough Inspection: We examine both interior and exterior spaces to understand the full scope of the problem. We look for droppings, gnaw marks, grease trails, nesting areas, and all potential entry points.
Strategic Trapping: We place snap traps along walls where mice travel, near nesting areas, and at entry points. We check traps regularly and remove captured mice promptly. Most homeowners see results within the first week.
Complete Entry Point Sealing: This is the most important step. We identify every potential entry point and seal it properly using steel wool, copper mesh, concrete patch, or appropriate materials. Common entry points include gaps around pipes and wires, foundation cracks, damaged vent screens, and gaps under doors.
Prevention Advice: We help you make your home less attractive to future invaders by storing food properly, reducing clutter, fixing moisture problems, and maintaining your exterior.
